review the basic types of hardwood flooring and the ideal setting
for each. hardwood floors can be grouped into many different
categories. Almost all of the hardwoods sold in Texas are engineered as
opposed to solid. Engineered floors are constructed of multiple plies
of wood that resist the effects of moisture. We’ve chosen just a few
popular engineered styles to explain.
 |
Distressed – this style of flooring has been intentionally worn
using chains, nails, staples, etc. It reflects the beauty of an aged
floor. It works great in active households since scratches and dents
will blend will the distressed appearance. |
|
Handscraped – these floors have a series of waves running the
length of each board. These waves range from very pronounced to subtle.
A fine handscraped floor has an element of character and depth not
found in other flooring options. |
 |
Exotic – The vast number of wood floors available parallel the
even greater number of tree species in the world. Exotic wood floors
are from species that often originate in places across the world. These
floors often have distinct visual characteristics and greater hardness.
This provides for a stunning appearance and durable construction. |
|
High Variation – this category of hardwoods often receives a
clear stain and is left with its natural splendor. Boards might range
from light to dark and might appear mismatched on a sample. However,
when these floors are laid across a home they create a look of
unequalled character and beauty. |
Most other styles are a matter of color and graining. A floor’s grain
can range from clean, having very few grains with little contrast
between grains, or much more pronounced. Clean graining can provide a
very open appearance to a room but does not always hide scratches and
dents as effectively as a floor with more graining.
